Cellulose-fiber packs

Cellulose-fiber packs

Technology needed to manufacture packages from cellulose fiber has greatly improved over the recent years. Nowadays, consumer product companies looking for sustainable and enviromentally friendly packaging have a viable alternative to containers made of plastic to packag their own products.

Hamer Packaging Technology has developed a technology able to manufacture packages from cellulose pulp material which can be fully recycled with no impact on environment. This project has been supported by CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial), a public institution that belongs to the Ministry of Science and Technology which supports R&D projects.

This new technology, named precision molding, is different because of the way the molded pulp is dried. Water is removed by compaction and heat. This creates a smooth, contoured and precisely dimensioned product, allowing  a wide range of products with a variety of shapes, sizes and applications.

Molded pulp containers are laminated with various barrier materials suitable for different types of food aplications. Laminated pulp made trays are oven-able and suitable for frozen and chilled ready meal products challenging traditional PET and aluminum trays. Barrier properties of the EVO barrier layer make them suitable for the most demanding MAP applications in fresh read meat, fish, poultry and perishable food.

Costumers immediately notice cellulose as sustainable premium material which enhances the value of the packaging. Therefore, we expect to see more and more cellulose fiber packages being used in retailing as a replacement to conventional plastic blister packs.
